Lethbridge County covers a large area and has an extensive road network of almost 2,500 kilometres. Public Works operations make up a large part of the County's everyday activities, and around half of budgeted operating expenses. This department is responsible for many functions, including road maintenance (grading, gravelling, road rehabilitation, culverts, signage, street sweeping, etc.), snow removal, and agricultural services.

Council has approved the following Level of Service documents, which guide these operations and direct staff activities to ensure maintenance is carried out in an effective and efficient manner, while remaining within budget:

  • 2023 Public Works Level of Service (includes grading, gravelling, Haul Route Network and hard surface maintenance, road construction/rehabilitation, culverts, signage, dust control, street sweeping, and line painting)
  • 2023 Agricultural Service Level of Service (includes pest/weed control and inspections, agriculture extension programs, mowing, park/playground maintenance, and tree pruning)
  • 2023-2024 Public Works Winter Level of Service (includes snow and ice maintenance)
