UPDATE April 5, 2024

Council approved updates and changes to the County’s Land Use Bylaw at the April 4 Council Meeting. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Sections were clarified to help readers better understand existing guidelines
  • Changes were made to some requirements to streamline the development process (i.e. solar collectors mounted on roofs or walls no longer need a development permit)
  • Development permits are now valid for 24 months (vs.12 months under the previous Bylaw), giving permit holders more time to complete their projects
  • Some Land Use Districts had uses added and updated standards
  • Home Occupation criteria is expanded to allow for larger home-based businesses
  • Enhanced language around alternative/renewable energy development to address impacts to County roads, weeds and soil erosion

After several months of review and opportunities for public feedback, the final draft was presented to Council at the April 4 meeting, where it was approved. The full document is on our website at: https://lethcounty.ca/p/land-use-bylaw or in the menu on this page.
